From a Certain Point of View

From a Certain Point of View (Star Wars)From a Certain Point of View by Ben Acker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This reminded me a lot of Ken Liu's "Legends of Luke Skywalker" - in fact Liu's in here along with 39 others. It's almost a Star Wars devotional, with so many authors providing their meditation on the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

The breadth of styles and thoughts is striking - and excellent angles of view on Star Wars. While it's easy to dismiss Star Wars as "space fantasy" (and it certainly does have that), in the hands of these authors you discover all sorts of deep, light, serious and comic dimensions. It's a fun exploration from many, many points of view!

Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity by James Martin

Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and SensitivityBuilding a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity by James     Martin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a thoughtful reflection on building bridges, particularly about between the LGBT community and the Catholic church. Expanded from a talk Fr. Martin gave after the Orlando nightclub massacre, he does a good job of considering all parties in a dialog among the faithful - both LGBT and not. It brought to mind John Shore's "Unfair," a collection of the testimony of LGBT Christians and how they've sought to live lives of faith.

Y is for Yesterday by Sue Grafton

Y is for Yesterday (Kinsey Millhone, #25)Y is for Yesterday by Sue Grafton

When I started this, the alphabet still ended at "Z."

Bittersweet to finish this book just after Grafton herself has left this mortal plain. There will be no "Z" and Kinsey will have to live on in A-Y alone.

There were a lot of twists and turns and typical Kinsey-in-danger moments - I certainly enjoyed the book, though, I think it could have been tightened up. I got a little tired of the jumps between 1979 and 1989 as we slowly got details of the original murder in the story.

Still, I enjoyed the story and the am happy for all the volumes in Kinsey's career. I first read these as audiobooks read, like this one, by Judy Kaye. She will always be the voice of Kinsey Milhone in my mind.
