This short story by Kurt Vonnegut was a typically dark (yet not with out humor) story of a bright, wonderful future where EVERY child is wanted.... and NO one is allowed to be born without a death to balance. 2BR02B is the phone number to dial when you're ready to volunteer to shuffle off this mortal coil.

Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom

Oh man. I just got TWO new PDA's to replace my old 2 meg Palm. Between the 16 meg Handspring and 8 meg Palm, I have a ton of portable space for ebooks!! It is amazing.

And THIS was a terrific first book (links below) to start with. It is a fascinating and whimsical SF story of the future, project the adhoc internet culture into a world where EVERYTHING is run like Wikipedia. In particular, the hero Julius is part of the adhocracy that runs the Magic Kingdom at Disneyworld.

It's a murder mystery as well - with Julius fighting to maintain control over the vision for his beloved Haunted Mansion, at the same time trying to solve a murder. Really a neat story - and full of lots of interesting Disney trivia. A fun book.

A big thank you to Cory Doctorow for his placing his books (I've already loaded up another) in free form. I'm looking forward to it.

I'd also note that I really like Plucker (http://www.plkr.org/)
it's something I couldn't run before. It really makes it easy to collect stuff from Gutenberg.org!
