Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt
Anne Rice

This novel is Anne Rice's most ambitious project and certainly her most unexpected. Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt imaginatively re-creates the childhood of Jesus based on the gospels and on current New Testament scholarship. Rice's moving portrayal presents the youthful Nazarene as he gradually adjusts to his divine nature and calling.
Yes - that says it well. In her afterword she reveals alot about her faith, and the path she followed to write this remarkable story. A work of faith, imagination and quite a bit of scholarship.... and a powerful devotional story. Highly recommended.

Don't know much about history : [sound recording] [everything you need to know about America history but never learned] / Kenneth C. Davis.

This was a lot of fun - a whirlwind (and even breezier, since this was abridged) run through American history, up through Reagan. Very nicely presented, and reinforced a lot of my other recent books (eg. John Adams, 1776, The Civil War, Assassination Vacation). I can't claim to be an expert, but it's great fun to learn about.
