Barryar, by Lois McMaster Bujold

Yet another great Bujold book. Wearing it out - had to tape the cover back together this time through...

"But pain... seems to me an insufficient reason not to embrace life. Being dead is quite painless. Pain, like time, is going to come on regardlesss. Question is, what glorious moments can you win from life in addition to the pain?"

Sky of Stone, by Homer Hickam

Don't know why I took so long to getting around to reading this, the latest of Hickam's memoirs about growing up in Coalwood - but another fine book. Heartwarming, and touching. A real mystery and a certain amount of adventure too. Hickam is a good writer - and keeps seeming to find more to write about his growing up in mining country.
