Child of Two Worlds by Greg Cox

Child of Two Worlds (Star Trek: The Original Series)Child of Two Worlds by Greg Cox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Spock, Klingons, Captain Pike - a great combination.

This is an excellent example of threading the tricky needle of filling in details within a highly developed canon. Cox takes *many* facts about Trek, even from the Enterprise series, and weaves them into a story when Spock was second officer under Pike. Carefully set up with a Spock's life paired up against a Klingon who, like him, is a "child of two worlds." Twists and turns are nicely plotted - just a great story - worth reading!

Miasma by Greg Cox

Miasma (Star Trek: The Original Series)Miasma by Greg Cox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Trek to disaster....

Here's another "fit into the known filmed canon" story, this one from Star Trek.
Not long after Trek's resurrection, with Saavik on the Enterprise, the crew is diverted from a diplomatic mission. What follows is a replay of the Galileo 7 episode, with notable differences, particularly in the ways that a resurrected Spock, with more miles on him has a different response to danger and emergency. .. now on to Cox's "Child of Two Worlds," with an adventure of a much younger Spock....

The Name of God is Mercy by Pope Francis

The Name of God is MercyThe Name of God is Mercy by Pope Francis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"We need constantly to contemplate the mystery of mercy."

Many good reflections from Francis -

“The most important thing in the life of every man and every woman is not that they should never fall along the way. The important thing is always to get back up, not to stay on the ground licking your wounds.”

“The corrupt man is the one who sins but does not repent, who sins and pretends to be Christian, and it is this double life that is scandalous. The corrupt man does not know humility, he does not consider himself in need of help, he leads a double life.”

And more!

Star Wars, Vol. 1: Skywalker Strikes by Jason Aaron

Star Wars, Vol. 1: Skywalker StrikesStar Wars, Vol. 1: Skywalker Strikes by Jason Aaron
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Never an easy task - squeezing in a new story within the confines of the known Star Wars films.
This book does a nice job of showing us Han, Chewie, Leia and Luke fighting the empire - and Luke confronting Vader, as well as his own doubts. Add in some Boba back story, this does a nice job of adding to the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
